PROFESSIONAL TRAINING COURSE IN TRADITIONAL TUSCAN TERRACOTTA
(three years)

Since the Middle Ages, the production of hand-built terracotta and wheel pottery has been one of the most significant of all the artisanal activities that have been and continue to be characteristic of the area around Florence.
This course can open up interesting professional outlooks, on the basis of a throught technical and artistic formation including all the traditional and experimental aspects of this fashinating field.
 
a) First level qualification (one year) : Beginner

- Moulding without framework
- Coil and slab methods
- Function and aesthetic of an Object
- Engobes decoration
- Tiles
- Maintenance and Drying
- Assembling components before or after firing

b) Second level qualification (one year) : students can choose 1 o 2 qualification
Prerequisites : to have attended a school of ceramic art or have worked in a ceramic craft factory (admission test)

MAJOLICA DECORATION (ANCIENT AND MODERN METHOD)

- History of ceramics
- Photography
- Composition and function of vitreus coatings and pigments on red or white ceramic support, on which to practice various decoration tecniques
- Under glaze techniques
- Over glaze techniques
- Vitreous and glaze application techniques
 

MODERN MOSAIC AND SCULPTURE
 
- Drawing and painting
- Projectation
- Use of Ceramics
- Glass and Glassy
- Paste for the cutting of "Tesseras" adhesives
- Study of material required both for wall or floor Mosaic tecniques decorative composition
- Using Mosaic on sculpture

MONOGRAPHIC COURSE : CERAMICS – MAJOLICA
(decorations and enamels on bisquit)
 
Learn to paint bisquit : simple exercises on Majolica decoration (second fire) on tiles and plate.
 

COURSES

Monthly – Beginner-Intemediate-Advanced
start every first Monday from February to June and from September to December (24 or 48 hours)
4 months course – Beginner-Intemediate-Advanced
from March to June and to September to December (90 or 180 hours)
 

EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL

Educational materials, such as books, photocopies, are not included in the fee. It will be bought directely from school office.
Studio Giambo supplies material and tools needed for courses. Tools should be used with utmost care and given back at the end of each lesson. Students may also use their own materials. They may take away objects paying the cost of materials and firing.
